After many more hours the clay model of Hermes is finally finished and ready for the building-up of the silicone mould, a very difficult and delicate art of craftsmanship...

Three different types of a special, highly sophisticated silicone have to be applied with extreme care step-by-step on top of each other on the still moist clay sculpture to build-up the necessary thickness of the mould.
Each of these three silicones differs from the other in its viscosity. The result is a very flexible but at the same time extremely strong mould that guarantees a perfect print of the original shape and texture of the sculpture...
As part of the further preparations a small plastic tube has to be fixed to the highest point of the beard. It will draw off any imprisoned air bubbles during the future casting process.
