My art studio, where the workshops take place is located on the “Quinta do Cerroverde”, which means “Estate of the Green Mountain”, a picturesquely situated property close to Cercal do Alentejo. Located near the coast, about 180 km to the south of Lisbon and 160 km to the north of Faro/Algarve, Cercal do Alentejo is a charming small town of just over 4.000 people. Its name derives from the Latin “Quercalu” (meaning “oak”), due to the large number of such trees in the area. From here it is only a short drive to the southwest to reach the coast and Vila Nova de Milfontes, an attractive resort town situated at the mouth of the river Mira. Once an important harbor, its imposing castle (now a hotel) served as a lookout post for pirates venturing up and down the Alentejo coast. A number of other small close-by coastal towns and breathtaking unspoiled beaches invite you for a walk or a pause. The vastness and greatness of the Alentejo countryside and the peaceful and remote surroundings of the Quinta do Cerroverde are the perfect setting to let your very own ideas and imagination become reality. Accommodations: There is a new pretty country guesthouse right at the edge of Cercal do Alentejo, about 1,5 km from the Quinta do Cerroverde. You find all needed information under : Other than that Cercal offers a nice variety of small hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and “tascas” where you can enjoy authentic Alentejo cuisine and lovely wines. How to get there: Coming from Lisbon:
There are various bus connections per day out of Lisbon to Cercal do Alentejo and back. The one-way trip takes 3 hrs. Car hire is also available at Lisbon airport (2 hour trip).
Coming from Faro/Algarve:
When coming from Faro the best way is via rented car. There are plenty of car-hires right at the airport. It takes about 2 hrs from there to Cercal
